This year, legal conferences are combining the best of the virtual realm and the fun of in-person events. You have more opportunities than ever to learn, network, and build your skills.

Keep in mind that the events listed here may be subject to change, especially during virus surges and other unpredictable circumstances. All the dates and locations listed in this article are correct as of January 2022. Check the event homepages for the latest information.

In chronological order, here are the top legal events to attend in 2022.

National Trial Lawyers Summit

Fontainebleau Miami Beach — Jan 30 – Feb 2

Trial Lawyers Summit is a gathering of civil plaintiff and criminal defense attorneys who want to network and hone their craft. The event is packed with information, entertainment, and opportunities to meet other talented lawyers in your field.

For 2022, the keynote speaker is Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, retired from the Miami Dolphins. Sessions cover everything from marketing your firm to winning more cases, and you’ll enjoy plenty of networking cocktail hours, luncheons, and live music.

Registrations are still open as of the time of this publication, but don’t wait. This is one of the earliest events of 2022.

ABA Tech Show

Chicago — March 2-5

The ABA Tech Show is a place where lawyers can learn about and experience the technology that is currently impacting the legal industry.

Legal work is increasingly dependent on tech, both in and out of the office. At this event, you get the chance to grow your tech competence while you get a glimpse at the future of legal tech

Choose your track to focus on a specific area, or attend talks from each of the available tracks for a well-rounded learning experience. In 2022, the tracks are Design, Launch, Grow, Sustain, and Transform. Additionally, there are some virtual tracks called Core Concepts and Virtually Everything.

Attendees can choose to do the virtual tracks only, or you can supplement your in-person experience with on-demand virtual sessions.


New York City — March 8-11

Previously scheduled at the end of January, Legalweek was postponed because of surging COVID case numbers in New York. The event is now scheduled for March 8-11, and attendees who already booked flights and reserved hotel rooms should update their travel plans accordingly.

The theme of this year’s event is Addressing the Changing Legal Landscape. You can expect to find in-depth workshops, thought-provoking discussions, and plenty of opportunities for networking and skill development.

Don’t miss the keynote address, Amplified, Polarized, and Digitized: Navigating the Current State of Communication with Don Lemon and Dan Abrams.

Since the event was rescheduled, you still have time to register, but don’t wait too long.

LMA Annual Conference

Las Vegas — March 21-23

The Legal Marketing Association will host their Annual Conference this year in Las Vegas, NV. This conference is specifically dedicated to the art and science of legal marketing.

According to their website, the LMA Annual Conference is the largest event focused exclusively on marketing and business development for the legal profession. The conference draws a great blend of people from large firms, small firms, and others who support firms and lawyers.

There are also a series of pre-conference programs that you can dig into now.

Legal Up

Virtual — April 5-6

Legal Up is a 2-day virtual conference for attorneys and other legal professionals who want to level up their careers.

This was a virtual event before virtual events were cool, and being location-independent is one of the biggest advantages. You can easily set aside the time to learn and network without worrying about flights, hotels, and the expense associated with business travel.

ABA Spring Conference

Virtual — April 27-30

Though ABA Spring Conference was originally planned to take place in Los Angeles, organizers recently announced that they have decided to pivot to a fully virtual format similar to the previous two years. This change may affect schedules and pricing, so keep an eye on their website for announcements.

The theme of this year’s Spring Conference is fitting: Where Do We Grow from Here? New Directions and Rejuvenation

Expect deep dives into the current and future legal landscape, including discussions about which pre-COVID practices we should leave behind and to which we should return.


Hybrid Virtual/In-person — April (tentative)

ILTACON 2022 was announced in a press release, but little information is available about the actual event location or schedule yet. The ILTACON website is still only providing information about the 2021 event.

ILTA is the International Legal Technology Association, and their ILTA CXO Summit is an excellent place to connect with other legal professionals while you explore the latest in legal tech.

The 2021 event was also a hybrid event with in-person sessions in Las Vegas plus virtual options. Keep an eye on their website for more information as all details announced in the press release are tentative.

ALA Annual Conference & Expo

Kissimmee — May 15-18

The ALA Annual Conference and Expo is a popular in-person event in sunny Florida. Registrations are now open, and you can check the current COVID precautions and requirements on their website.

The Annual Conference is a long-running conference that draws big crowds of attorneys and legal professionals. It’s operated by the Association of Legal Administrators.

The agenda for 2022 has yet to be announced, which means there’s still time to apply as a speaker if you’re looking for opportunities this year. You can also inquire about sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities.

AILA Annual Conference on Immigration Law

New York City — June 15-18

The American Immigration Lawyers Association hosts their Annual Conference on Immigration Law this summer in New York, New York. At the time of this publication, registrations are not yet open, but the conference has issued a Save the Date.

Regular attendees who prefer in-person events will be pleased at the return of this specialized conference in 2022. AILA AC has been a virtual conference due to the pandemic, but they have chosen to return to an in-person event in 2022. As always, check the conference website ahead of time to track any pandemic-related changes.

NALA Conference and Expo

Phoenix — July 14-16

The NALA Conference and Expo is a top-notch paralegal conference in Phoenix, Arizona. Their website sums it up nicely:

Every year NALA hosts a 3-day educational conference which features leading experts in the legal field and 30+ sessions, including CP Exam Review Courses. This conference is a great way to earn CLE, elevate your education, and engage with other law professionals.

Like many of the conferences later in the year, tickets are not yet on sale at the time of this publication, but you still have time to volunteer to help or apply to advertise.

Legal Geek

London — September 28-29

Attorneys, legal professionals, and thought leaders in the legal tech community all come together at Legal Geek in London. This 2-day conference is packed with workshops, exhibitors, social events, and more.

Like many tech-focused events, the conference itself is not the only way to get involved. There are extracurricular opportunities in the days leading up to the event and even a yoga side event the day after.

This event is international, and as a conference with a strong focus on technology, that makes sense. Expect plenty of content that will modernize your thinking and help you run your firm with future-proof strategies and practices.

Clio Cloud Conference

Nashville — October 10-11

This is a great time to buy your pass to the Clio Cloud Conference because there’s a deep discount ($399 instead of $899) if you buy before March 24.

Cloud Conference is a great blend of skill-building, networking, tech exploration, and more. You’ll meet people from a wide variety of backgrounds, and you’ll be able to follow your curiosity in a wide range of topics.

In 2022, you can choose to attend this event in person or virtually. You don’t have to be a Clio user to attend.

The Summit

Orlando — November 11-12

The Summit is a business-focused event to help law firms level up their marketing, business strategy, and more.

Join hundreds of other law firm owners for a deep dive into what it takes to make a firm successful. This is a hands-on style of event with plenty of workshops to build skills that you’ll be able to use right away.

Please note that the website lists some conflicting information for dates. At the moment, the schedule specifies November 11-12, but the main banner lists the dates November 3-4. Please contact the organizers if you are unsure.
